Questions & Answers

If you are new to Hypno-CBT, you will likely have questions. Here are the ones I am asked most often. If yours is not here, please do get in touch.

What exactly is Hypno-CBT?

Hypno-CBT is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. It is a structured, evidence-informed approach that combines the practical techniques of CBT with hypnosis. CBT helps identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. Hypnosis creates a calm, focused state in which the mind is more open to new ways of responding. Together, they tend to produce more lasting change than either approach alone.

No. Hypnosis is not sleep and you are not unconscious. You remain fully aware throughout and in complete control. You cannot be made to say or do anything you do not want to. The experience is more akin to a very deep, focused relaxation in which you are receptive but always in charge.

This varies from person to person and depends on the nature of what you are working on. Most people find that a course of between four and eight sessions is sufficient for a meaningful shift. Specific phobias often resolve more quickly. We will discuss this during your initial consultation and review as we go.

Yes. Online sessions work very well and are available to people anywhere in the UK. Hypnotherapy translates effectively to a video format, and many clients actually prefer the convenience and comfort of working from home. In-person sessions are available in Barnet, North London.

The first session is largely a conversation. We will talk about what is bringing you to therapy, what you would like to change, and what your life looks like at the moment. I will explain the approach and answer any questions you have. We may do a brief relaxation exercise to give you a sense of what hypnosis feels like, but there is no pressure.

In many cases, yes. Hypno-CBT can work alongside other support. Please do mention any existing treatment during your initial consultation. I am not a medical professional and do not provide clinical advice; if you are on prescribed medication, please continue to follow your GP’s guidance.

Scepticism is healthy and I welcome it. I would rather you come into this with open, realistic expectations than with hopes that cannot be met. The honest answer is: for most people dealing with anxiety, stress, or specific fears, Hypno-CBT is effective. For some, it works quickly. For others, it takes longer. An initial conversation will help us both assess whether this is likely to be a good fit.
