8 Self Reflection

Self-reflection is the antidote to our autopilot, that if unchecked entraps us in the same old thinking and behavior patterns of our past. Our autopilot can be helpful, developed from our daily routines, habits and coping strategies that ensure we do repetitively and effectively what we need to do, whether that is walking the same route to the station or engaging with others in a business-like or informal way.

Questions arise from our need to adapt and change in response to others, our surroundings, and the demands of life. When our autopilot needs resetting what are we to do?  Self-reflection as a daily practice, during counselling, therapy and continuing professional development (CPD) is the tool for resetting our autopilots.  Self-development and adapting to changing times relies on self-reflection and ongoing re-evaluation. .
