Area of Support

Academic librarian and hypnotherapist

Hypnotherapy can be a useful self-development tool to build confidence, improve presentation performances to groups and audiences, calm exam nerves and prepare a learner’s mind to plan, structure, schedule and organize research assignments.

As an academic librarian and hypnotherapist, I can advise on research resources, search strategies, and coach post 18 young and mature students on learning and study skills.

Example of a session agenda

  • Agree SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals and desired outcomes
  • Explore learning strengths, styles and challenges including adults with neurodiversity issues.
  • Devise an agreed learning support plan for the client
  • Client/therapist collaboration on hypnosis scripts and audio files for enhancing learning skills and experiences
  • Guided visualization under hypno-relaxation to counteract learning anxieties, boost self-confidence and rehearse challenging scenarios as preparation for a talk, for an exam, for a demonstration, for a theatrical or vocal performance etc.

My Qualifications and Experiences

Disclaimer

My approach is to be inclusive, neurodiverse and trauma informed but I have not been trained in the assessments of neurodiverse learners and can only offer referral options to an educational or clinical psychologist. There are many in private practice and the waiting list through the NHS can be lengthy.

As a life-long learner, postgraduate and adult dyslexic I do appreciate the learning challenges in further and higher education. Encouragement, self-esteem building, relaxing in a calm environment and organizing one’s thoughts are the first steps towards successful learning.
