Stress and Anxiety

Hypnotherapy sessions can offer a safe space to explore and question the roots of stress triggers and anxiety patterns. It offers an opportunity to practice relaxation techniques, diffuse client reactions and re-evaluate perceptions and life priorities.

Breath work, safe space visualizations, and Socratic questioning of beliefs around stress and anxiety can help reclaim healthy regulation of the client’s nervous system. Simple techniques like learning to distance and setting emotional boundaries, exit strategies and slow, conscious breathing can help diffuse situations and give time to develop a well-informed response.

Hypnotherapy can be effective in managing context specific stress and anxiety. An awareness and understanding of our stress and trauma responses such as fight, flight, freeze, fawning (over pleasing and accommodating others), fainting and pretending to be fine (masking) and associated behaviors can lead to more effective coping or exit strategies.

Stress, anxieties and associated traumas can result in deep physiological and psychological impacts, such as muscular tensions, medical issues including digestive, respiratory, immunological and nervous exhaustion.  Equally some stress can be positive, motivational, help fulfill deadlines and inspire creativity.

Managing stress well is often a mix of respecting our limitations and reframing our perceptions to view challenges as opportunities for change and personal growth. A lifestyle review and reset can help reprioritize and rebalance toxic and self-sabotaging habits towards a more self-nurturing approach to life. A hypnotherapist can coach clients in clarifying a personal development plan.

Session outline

  • Agree SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) therapeutic goals and desired outcomes
  • Explore the personal and work-related context of stress reactions and anxieties
  • Devise a resolution plan and coping strategies to manage and diffuse these stresses and anxieties within the constraints of a client’s life.
  • Client/therapist collaboration on a personalized hypnosis script to relax, release disturbing thoughts and strengthen positive thinking and behaviors

Clinical and free-floating anxieties will need further medical support and medication, so chronic stress and anxieties need to be shared with your local GP.
