9 The Language of Therapy

Language and social literacy generally are crucial for us all for navigating the modern world. However psychological and emotional literacy through language is equally important for us to understand and navigate our inner worlds, express our needs, ideas and creativity. The power of words, especially at the right time, to the appropriate people and delivered concisely and mindfully cannot be underestimated.

Therapy sessions can be a valuable safe space to articulate challenging feelings, to both name and shame, as well as name and celebrate our negative, and positive feelings as well as those grey areas where no one is to blame yet we can learn to hold seemingly unresolvable tensions more comfortably in our hearts.  It is a place to confidently explore one’s shadow self and find ways to embrace and integrate all that we deny within ourselves.
